Fresh Approach to Oral Care

Dr. Suzanne Caudry takes a patient-centered approach to preparing for gum grafting procedures. Before the procedure, she thoroughly examines the patient's oral health and discusses their concerns and goals for the treatment.

These examinations see us taking a comprehensive approach to examining patients and analyzing x-rays before performing gum grafts. It is during these stages that we carefully evaluate the condition of the patient's gum tissue and underlying bone structure to develop a customized treatment plan that will deliver the best possible outcomes.

The patient's personalized treatment plan will address unique needs while making use of the latest techniques and technologies to ensure the best result.

Post-Operative Oral Care for Patients

After performing gum graft surgery, our team typically provides patients with detailed post-operative care instructions to help ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery. Some of the common post-operative care measures that an oral surgeon may recommend include:

Pain Management

Some initial discomfort might be hard to avoid, but we don't think a patient should have to endure any more than that today. Patients may be prescribed pain medication or advised to use over-the-counter pain relievers to manage discomfort.

Rest and Recovery

One of the best things a patient can do for themselves in the wake of a gum graft-and one of the easiest-is rest. We advise patients to avoid strenuous activity and rest as much as possible during the initial healing period.

Diet Modifications

There are some foods that might put the surgical sites at risk of infection or other troubles. Patients are often advised to eat soft foods and avoid foods that may irritate the gums, such as spicy or acidic foods.

Oral Hygiene

Knowledge is power-and this why we give provide patients with ample information on how to maintain good oral hygiene while avoiding the surgical site. This may involve using a special mouthwash or avoiding certain brushing techniques. Every little bit of diligence helps ensure a speedy recovery and long-term gum graft success.

Follow-Up Appointments

After completing your gum graft procedure, we typically schedule follow-up appointments to monitor the healing progress, remove any stitches or dressings, and provide additional guidance on oral care. These appointments ensure we detect any minor issues before they unfold into larger gum problems. Even if you do not have oral surgery in your future, you should always schedule regular check-up appointments for this reason alone.

Safe and Accessible Gum Restoration

Gum restoration is a common treatment for recessed gums. This procedure involves rebuilding the gum tissue to cover the exposed root surfaces of the teeth. Oral surgeons and periodontists are often involved in performing gum restoration procedures.

Addressing Your Gum Troubles

Many people will spend their mornings looking in the mirror and wondering why their smile looks different than it used to. Their newly disproportionate gums or pronounced teeth will leave them thinking that their teeth look bigger than they used to. In reality, the teeth haven't grown-it's the gums that have changed.

Improper toothbrushing technique, oral trauma, bacteria, and gum disease can dramatically impact the gums. One of these troublesome issues is gum recession. Gum recession is when the gums that cover the roots of the teeth disappear, further exposing the roots of the teeth and allowing them to be harmed. In many minor cases, this will alter the appearance of the smile. Teeth will look more prominent, giving the appearance of a "toothy" smile that a person isn't accustomed to. However, if gum recession continues over time, it can lead to inflammation of the gums, unchecked accumulation of bacteria and plaque, discoloration of teeth, and periodontal disease.

Thankfully, help is within your reach. If you have gum issues that you would like to resolve, Suzanne Caudry and her staff are here to help you. Having operated at the forefront of periodontics for decades, there's no one better suited to serve you than Dr. Caudry. We emphasize patient-centered care and picture-perfect results, ensuring you walk away feeling cared for and smiling confidently.

Improve Your Smile

Many of us wish our smile looked how it used to, but we aren't sure how to address this particular problem. More often than not, the problem can be traced back to the gradual receding of the gum line. As much as we might care for our teeth, the gums are just as important. They're a strong line of defense against bacteria, and they're also as essential as the teeth when it comes to crafting a wonderful smile. Needless to say, one can't overlook the health and appearance of their gums for long.

Has gum recession left you with a smile with a disproportionate tooth-to-gum ratio? Do you want to do away with these issues and restore your smile to its former glory? If so, we invite you to contact Dr.Suzanne Caudry and her dream team staff.

Specializing in gum grafting, we are able to dramatically reduce-or even reverse-the effects of gum recession. Would you like to learn more about gum grafting and the other services we offer at our state-of-the-art facility? Call (416) 928-3444 now to speak with Dr. Caudry's incredible staff.

About Gum Grafting

Do you look in the mirror and see a "toothy" smile? Have the roots of your teeth become more prominent over the years? This might be a result of gum recession-and the solution for that is nothing other than gum grafting.

Many people have heard others mention gum grafting procedures before, but few people actually know what the procedure entails. For those who feel nervous about visiting an oral surgeon, we are here to dispel your fears and concerns. Grafting gum tissue is a fairly straightforward surgical procedure that requires little time. Even the recovery period might be shorter than you expect. In little time at all, you will find yourself able to chew food and drink beverages freely. Most importantly, you'll feel perfectly comfortable smiling as much as you wish.

Gum grafting (also known as gingival grafting) is a type of soft tissue graft used to replace lost gum tissue. When gum recession occurs, teeth lose their attachment, which is a natural defense against bacteria and trauma. Recession is always accompanied by root exposure, which leads to sensitivity and leaves them exposed and susceptible to root decay. Recession can be caused by grinding, past treatment with orthodontics (braces), malocclusion, and aggressive tooth brushing. Treatments and habits can be a greater risk for people who, based on their genetics, naturally have thin gums. When gum recession is a problem, soft tissue grafting techniques may be a solution.

Are you looking to address the problems that have arisen as a result of gum recession? Do you want to learn about what gum grafting can do for you? Contact us at your leisure. We will examine your gums, answer your questions, and outline the possible treatments available to you.

Gum Grafts Solve Problems

A gum graft is not a cosmetic procedure that aims to satisfy the vanity of patients. There are many cosmetic benefits to a gum graft, but we cannot stress how valuable healthy and non-recessed gums are to an individual’s oral health. For every cosmetic benefit you can identify, there are numerous health benefits as well. In short, gum graft procedures solve a wide variety of problems related to teeth, gums, and your overall confidence.

Does it look as though your teeth have become too big for your smile? Do you avoid brushing your teeth because your gums bleed on a regular basis? These problems can be traced back to gum recession-and sometimes periodontal disease. As frustrating as these problems can be, there are solutions. We are the ones who offer these solutions for incomparable rates. What's more, we pair our gingival grafting services with the finest patient care available today.

Gum grafting puts an end to hygienic and cosmetic issues that plague people for years-sometimes even decades. It is a safe, minimally invasive, and long-celebrated procedure.

A gum graft is designed to solve problems such as thin gums or insufficient gum coverage (recession). A thin piece of tissue is used to provide a stable band of attached gingiva around the tooth. The gingival graft may be placed to cover the exposed portion of the root or to increase the thickness of existing gums. This procedure is highly predictable and results in a stable healthy band of attached tissue around the tooth.

Are you curious about the dietary restrictions associated with the recovery period? We are here to answer your questions, do away with misconceptions, and more. At the facilities of Dr. Caudry, we are always eager to address the concerns of the people in our community.

In most cases, the recovery process takes about two weeks, with each day showing rapid improvements. During this two-week period, it is crucial that you abide by the guidelines and directions of Dr. Caudry and her team. The two-week post-surgical period is crucial to the success of the graft. You'll be expected to avoid certain foods and avoid any hygienic practices that might put too much pressure on the gums themselves. Before long, you'll have healed and healthy gums-and a happy smile, too.

We only incorporate treatments and procedures with high rates of success. What's more, we only stamp our seal of approval on work that meets our exceptionally high standards, as well. Rest assured, soft tissue grafting is a relatively uncomplicated procedure that promises success. With so much equipment at our disposal and years of unparalleled experience to our name, you won't have a thing to worry about.

Minimal Discomfort, Excellent Results

Soft tissue grafting is a relatively straightforward procedure that promises minimal discomfort for the patient. In most cases, a periodontist such as Dr. Caudry can complete a gum graft surgery in as little time as 90 minutes. The post-operative removal of sutures and future appointments will also be incredibly brief, as well.

With a high success rate for soft tissue grafts, you will never have to worry when you're in the care of Dr. Caudry and her incredible staff. That said, the continued success of a gum graft does not only rest on the expertise of your periodontist. Every patient needs to remain diligent during the recovery process. Doing so ensures that your grafts heal as intended.

What to Expect During the Gum Grafting Procedure

Are you one of those people who worry about the recovery period as much as the surgical procedure itself? Never fear. By taking care of yourself during the recovery period, you won't have anything to worry about.

During the recovery period, we advise patients to avoid certain foods. To protect the surgical site from agitation, we suggest sticking to a diet of soft foods and cool liquids. Avoid hot soups, straws, and food that has a tendency to get stuck in your teeth. When brushing and flossing, be sure to avoid the grafted area. Floss and bristles could easily open the grafted area, which will require further work on the part of your periodontist.

Take Time to Heal

Healing takes time, but that does not mean it takes a lot of time. Most people should expect their gums to heal in as little time as one to two weeks. Many need to schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Caudry to ensure the complete success of the graft, but this follow-up never takes longer than necessary. As for the scheduling process, it is as straightforward as can be.

Brushing and Flossing

You might want to return to brushing and flossing as quickly as possible after undergoing surgery. We applaud the practice of good hygiene, but we advise patients not to resume regular brushing and flossing immediately after undergoing oral surgery. Aggressive brushing or flossing could compromise the surgical site, undoing all the hard work carried out by your oral surgeon.

You should be able to brush and floss as you used to after the six-week initial healing period. Your graft will feel unbelievably normal, and your recessed gums will be a thing of the past. To ward off future gum-related issues, we recommend adhering to a rigorous and healthy hygienic routine. Trust us when we say that regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing does wonders for our patients.

Are You a Candidate for a Gum Graft?

Are you unsure whether or not you are a candidate for a gum graft? Have you been able to determine whether or not your gums are receding just by looking in the mirror? The good news is you are not alone. Determining whether or not you would benefit from a gum graft is a matter best left to professionals such as Dr. Caudry and her staff. After carefully inspecting your teeth and gums and performing a thorough overview of your oral health, we will determine whether or not you stand to benefit from this procedure.

A gum graft may be right for you if:

  • You've experienced significant gum recession
  • The roots of your teeth are exposed
  • You notice exposed areas are red, puffy, or inflamed

If you think you need a gum graft, feel to ask us for a consultation. New patients do not need referrals for consultations, and we are always eager to improve another person's oral health. With us overseeing your treatment, you will surely get the care you need.

Your Options for Gum Grafting

No two patients are alike. For this reason and more, we specialize in several approaches to the gum graft procedure. The approach that works best for you depends entirely on the state of your gums, your bill of health, and other mitigating factors. Our adaptable nature ensures that you receive nothing less than the care you deserve.

The gingival graft can be obtained in two ways: either your own tissue (taken from the palate) or donated dermal tissue (Allograft). The preferred choice is your own tissue since the final results are superior.

The traditional treatment involves using the patient's own tissue. This technique often gives the best surgical outcomes. However, an additional surgery site can cause some discomfort and a longer healing time for the patient. Allografts are an attractive and less invasive alternative. It involves using donated dermal tissue. Recent advancements in Allografts have improved surgical outcomes and so considerably decreased patient post-up pain. We always use the most advanced products available for the best possible surgical outcomes. However, the best results will be achieved with the patients own tissues.

You will have your unique treatment plan and the choice of donor tissue to achieve the best possible result for you will be discussed. We want to ensure the most comfortable treatment for you.

Sedation for Gum Grafts

We work with many patients who experience anxiety upon sitting in the dentist's chair. For those who would prefer, we offer customizable sedation options. With a mild IV sedative, your concerns will melt away. You will find yourself in a state of relaxation.

For multitude gum graft procedures, sedation may be the attractive option for most. A light sedation will make the lengthy procedure go by quickly as the grafting process can take up to three hours. Rather than scheduling multiple sessions for several grafting procedures, we will be able to complete all the necessary work in one sitting.

For more routine grafting procedures, we typically provide patients with a local anesthetic that numbs the surgical site. Once we have numbed the area, you will only feel slight pressure over the duration of the procedure. After completing the graft, we will provide you with information about suitable painkillers, should you need them during the recovery period.

Swift and Efficient Gum Graft Procedures

We understand the expectations and needs of our clients. They do not want to spend any more time than necessary in the dentist's chair. They want oral care from professionals who take their time-and their comfort-into consideration. They want to know that their periodontist's approach is swift, efficient, and state of the art. Rest assured, we are the periodontists who can fulfill these expectations and more. We take a patient-centered approach to oral care.

We have ascended the ranks of oral surgery by paying attention to the needs and wants of patients old and new. A chief concern of our clientele is the length of time that procedure takes. After all, few people want to sit in a dentist's chair any longer than necessary.

With us overseeing the gum grafting procedure, you will never have to wait a long time before you can leave our facilities. We will make sure that your gum graft only takes as long as necessary. We are able to fulfill the promises of shorter surgeries and greater patient comfort by our experience, efficiency, and the use of light IV sedation.

Gum grafting surgery takes approximately one hour for 1-3 teeth. After we have completed the grafting procedure and inspected the graft site carefully, we will send the patient home with all the information needed to properly care for their gums in the post-operative stages. The patient must be on a soft food diet for 6 weeks afterwards. After this time the gums are functionally the same as pre-surgery.
